Rog (ロッグ) is the husband of Maru and the father of El.
Appearance[]
Rog is a frog-like beast like his son.[1] He has dark brown skin with fawn yellow strips, large round eyes with vertical slit pupils, and a wide mouth. He wears a light cadet blue vest over an aegean blue shirt, an off-white sash around his waist, and grey Capri pants.[2]
Personality[]
Rog cares for his wife and son and does everything he can to protect his family. When Sorting Unit officers try to separate them, he fights with the officer to try to reunite with them.[1][3] He also leaves his village with them to find somewhere safe after dealing with the Sorting Unit.[2]
Plot[]
One day, Rog and Maru take El to work at a bakery on the main avenue of the capital. Rog works hard to bake fresh bread for their costumers. While they are working, a disguised Sariphi and Leonhart buy bread from his bakery. Later that day, Rog and Maru over hear Bolas's mother yelling at Sariphi. Rog goes with Maru and El to find out what is happening. They see that Sariphi's disguise has fallen off, and they discover that she is human.[4]
Some time later, Rog and Maru let El play in the street outside of the bakery on the main avenue of the capital. While they are working, El tells them that there is a Holy Beast flying around. Maru tells El that he is mistaken, and Rog tells El that he should start looking for customers.[5]
On the day of the Great Sacred Festival, Rog goes with Maru and El to the palace to see the king. Rog let's El sit on his shoulders as they stand in the crowd. When Leonhart finishes his speech, Rog cheers for him.[6]
Later on, Rog and Maru hear a rumor that the kingdom is being invaded by someone who claims to be the King of Wolves. They travel with El to the palace to find out if the rumors are true. While they are waiting outside of the palace, Rog and Maru demand to know if the capital is still a safe place.[7]
Some time later, Leonhart holds an official ceremony to announce his intentions to conduct negotiations with Yoana.[8] During his announcement it is revealed that he is half human, and he flees the capital of Ozmargo with Sariphi. Set immediately declares Leonhart an enemy to beastkind and takes over the kingdom.[9]
One of Set's first acts as acting king is to sort all of beastkind by species. A 'Sorting Unit' is dispatched to Rog's village. An officer in the Sorting Unit notices that El and Rog are a different species from Maru and they separate them from each other. The officer explains that Rog and Maru will no longer be able to be together since they are different species.[1]
Rog fights with an officer, but he is not successful in reuniting his family.[10] In the commotion, El is picked up by one of the Sorting Unit officers. El becomes upset and kicks the officer holding him. This causes the officer to drop El. The officer becomes angry at El and tries to attack him.[1]
Sariphi notices that the Sorting Unit officer is about to hit El, and she runs over to protect El from being hit by the officer. Sariphi holds El as she admonishes the officers for their actions. The officers try to attack Sariphi, but Lanteveldt shows up just in time to protect her. Lante is able to defeat the officers in the town square.[1]
In fear of what Sariphi and Lanteveldt might do to El, Maru runs over, yanks El from Sariphi's arms, and tries to protect El from them. Lanteveldt yells at Maru for being rude to someone who just tried to save her son, but Sariphi insists that it's fine. As Sariphi and Lanteveldt leave the village, El tries to say something to Sariphi. However, Maru takes him away.[1]
Soon after, Rog and Maru decide to leave their village in search of somewhere safer. While they are traveling, they come across Ocelot and some knights of the Maskviana Exorcistic Order. The knights offer to help them find a safer home. As Maru, Rog, and El are heading towards the knights, an officer from the Sorting Unit attempts to stop them by attacking them. They are saved by Ilya. El thanks Ilya for his help, and Rog and Maru bow at Ilya in thanks.[11]
A few days later, Rog travels with Maru and El to the palace to hear the king speak. Leonhart announces his intentions to create a kingdom where no one is discriminated by species or origin and to protect Ozmargo with Sariphi ruling at his side. When Sariphi comes out of the palace, El tells Rog that Sariphi is the same person who protected him from the Sorting Unit officer.[12][13]
Relationships[]
Maru[]
Maru is Rog's wife. Rog helps to run a bakery with Maru.[4][5] Additionally, Rog cares for the safety of his wife. He travels to travels to the palace to find out if the kingdom is safe from invaders.[7] He also evacuates his village with his wife after the Sorting Unit officers try to force them apart.[2]
El[]
El is Rog's son. Rog frequently takes El to work with him at the bakery on the main avenue of the capital.[4][5] He spends a lot of time with El, especially when they are traveling to the palace.[7][13] When they are separated by officers from the Sorting Unit, Rog tries to fight an officer to be reunited with him.[3] Later that day, Rog evacuates their village with Maru and El.[2]
Sariphi[]
Though they never interact with each other, Sariphi save's Rog's son from being attacked by a Sorting Unit officer.[1][3]

- Rog appears more frequently in the anime than he does in the manga.
- Rog does not have any speaking lines in the manga.
