Maria Kleinoel (マリア・クライノエル, Kurainoeru Maria) is the adoptive sister of Sariphi.
Appearance[]
Maria has brown hair, fair skin, a light dusting of freckles on the bridge of her nose, and pear green eyes. When she was a child, she would style her hair in braided pigtails.[1]
Personality[]
Little is known about Maria's personality, since Sariphi only talks about her in the context about how she found out she was a sacrifice.[2] However, her actions in Sariphi's memories imply that she cared about Sariphi's safety when they were children; shown when she warned her about the bees when they were in the meadows.[3]
History[]
As children, Maria and Sariphi shared a bedroom that had a single window.[2][4] They also used play together in the field outside their house.[3]
Plot[]
Maria only appears in the story through flashbacks.
Sariphi reveals to Leonhart that she once tried to wake Maria up late one night to ask about her name. Since she was asleep at the time, Maria told Sariphi to go to her parents Later on, Sariphi tells Leonhart about a time Maria warned her about the dangers of carpenter bees while they were playing outside.[3]

Sariphi is Maria's adoptive sister. Unlike her parents, Maria is known to truly care about Sariphi and treated her like a true sister. It is highly implied that she had no knowledge of Sariphi being a sacrifice, as she appeared genuinely despaired when she was taken to Ozmargo.

- Maria's family name, Kleinoel, was revealed in Chapter 75 of the manga.
- In the manga, Sariphi only ever refers to Maria as "big sister".
- Maria is the only member of Sariphi's family to appear in three different flashbacks from her past, though she only has two lines throughout the whole manga.
