Leonhart (レオンハート, Reonharuto), born Richard, is the deuteragonist of anime Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts and Manga series and one of the main characters of The White Rabbit and the Beast Prince.
Leonhart is the husband of Sariphi, the father of Richard, Shiira and Stella, and is the current king of Ozmargo.
It was later revealed that, Leonhart is actually the son of the younger twin brother of the late king of Ozmargo.

Leonhart is a lion-like beast with a very large figure that stands at least two meters in height with paws that have black razor-sharp claws that can easily rip and shred enemies to pieces. He had a thick dark sienna brown fur that covers his large muscular body with a tail that is "bushy" and "soft" as Sariphi describes it, a pair of curved charcoal black horns on his head, and a thick crow black mane that extends down to his middle chest.
Leonhart has a pair of thin crimson eyes that has a stare that can easily frighten anyone that he looks at.
Leonhart wears a simple formal attire that consists an aegean blue long-sleeved tunic with gold details, a white sash around the waist, and ivory white trousers. He usually wears a black cape with a purple interior the rest of the attire, but has it off in bed.
By the end of the series, Leonhart's tunic is now dark bluish-black like Anubis's fur and his cape is now violet-blue and white.

During the Night of Revelation beneath the moonlight of a full moon every month, due to Leonhart's human heritage, he takes on the form of a human. In this form, he retains some of his characteristics of his beast form like his horns and fangs, but they are much smaller, most noticeably his crimson eyes. His voice is also noticeably less rough and deep-sounding, when he was in his beast form.
Leonhart also has scars on both his arms, due to the fact that, the human girls that, were meant to be sacrificed and eaten, by him once a year and let the sacrifices escape and he used a sword to, make it look like he had eaten them, so that, the other beasts would believe that, he had killed the sacrificed human girls.

Leonhart is a young, androgynous man in his early twenties, with a slender build, fair skin and long sleek black hair that, stretches all the way to his back, until he cuts it to a shorter haircut to take back his throne from Set. He looks similar to his mother and his distant relative, Anastasia, when he is in his human form.
Personality[]
As a child, Leonhart was cheerful and kind. He deeply cared for his subjects and treated them with kindness. Leonhart also rejected violence and often preferred to avoid conflicts and use diplomacy instead; something Anubis was greatly shocked and surprised at.
As an adult, Leonhart is said to be a fierce king that leads his countrymen with equal form of brutality and cruelty but in truth, he is actually a kind and caring king that wants nothing more than his subjects to feel safe and secure in his country. He shows is brutal side not because he wants to, but because he sees it as a means to keep his country's political parties in check. He fears that others will try and usurp him if he doesn't keep his appearance as a strong king.
Behind Leonhart's stern and brutal exterior, he has a softer side that he rarely shows to anyone. But after Sariphi came into his life, he started to show his more gentler side more public, much to Anubis' discomfort. He sacrifices very much to the throne and he says that it is only when Sariphi is beside him that can make him forget about such a pressing job.
Leonhart is easily angered, especially when Anubis and the other senators schemes behind his back. He is not afraid to show his anger around people and will even go so far to kill anyone he feels have either disrespected him or his future queen. He once almost killed a noble after that, said noble "slighted" Sariphi, when the noble made her trip and spill wine over him.[2]
As a result of being born as a beast-human hybrid, which is considered an aberration, Leonhart suffers a constant inner struggle of whether he is a beast or a human, as well as being absolutely afraid that one day he will be discovered and his secret exposed. The sense of having to hide his human side from others and pretending to be someone he's not makes him believe he is a disgrace and doesn't deserve to be the king - these thoughts were fuelled by the hatred his father, who turned out to actually be his biological uncle, often demonstrated to him. But after meeting Sariphi and when she finds out his most hidden secret at night when she was supposed to be "sacrificed" , Leonhart slowly starts to overcome this fear and self-loathing, chooses to use both his position and blood to change things, and later create a world in which beasts and humans can live peacefully together. His love for Sariphi has made Leonhart embrace every part of himself, his strengths and weaknesses, and his beast-human genes.

Early Life[]

Leonhart was born to a beast and a human. After his father passed away due to his wounds, Capel tore him from his mother and returned to Ozmargo with him. His existence was announced to the people simultaneously as the queen's death. The people assumed that, the queen sacrificed her life to "bear" him. When his uncle had learned that, he is a half-human, unable to accept that, his heir was a human,[3] he became harsh and strict. Whenever the smog was gone, he would lock Leonhart in the basement. He believed that his "father" is protecting him from anyone to see his human form.

Leonhart asks Fenrir if he is okay after using magic on Fenrir.
When they decided to hold a match in the king's presence at the Ozmargo Royal Palace. Fenrir was slated to fight Leonhart, they'd be displaying their magic in front of the King of Ozmargo. When Fenrir uses his magic, it was not nearly as strong as Leonhart's, as he didn't have to lift a finger to reflect Fenrir's powers back. [4]
When Sirius was appointed by the king to be a companion to Leonhart after his late father's death, when Sirius was sick he snuck through the window to check on him and brought him food, when the kidnappers prepared to attack Anubis, Leonhart went and got attacked instead which surprised Anubis he then used his powers which scared the kidnappers and they fled. [5]
When his "father" was dying from an illness, he was hoping that his "father" would hold and tell him that he love him. [7]
Years later, Leonhart and Anubis meet Jormungand, he saw his bout and says it was a shame. To his eyes, he were the strongest and tells Jormungand to wait a longer, one day, he will change Ozmargo, until the day arrives and told him to continue to believe in his sword.[8]
He built a secret hidden door in a room where the supposed sacrificed girls where supposed to be eaten by him, and let them escape through that door he then used his sword and used it on his arms everytime to make it seem like he ate the sacrifices so that all the beasts would believe that he ate them.

Anubis introduces the 99th Sacrifice from Yoana, he asks for the girl's name. When he threatened to shred her, she instead commented that his paws were fluffy and soft much to Clops & Cy's horror and to his confusion.
At first, Leonhart would often keep Sariphi confined in his bed chambers and take her back whenever he catches her roaming in the castle, much to her annoyance.
After Sariphi saw Leonhart's in his human form and told him that he isn't weak while aiding his wound that he got from protecting her from an intruder. Sariphi says to him that she can't wait to be eaten by him, Leonhart then takes her hand and breaks the chains that she had and hugs her.
The next day he says that he will make Sariphi his queen much to the confusion and horror of the council then someone asks him why he wants to have the next royal bloodline mixed, with human blood much to his anger. After Sariphi gave him his name "Leonhart" and explained the meaning of it he says that he can live with that.[9]
When Sariphi got Miasma poisoning and that if she continued to stay in Ozmargo that she would eventually die if she wasn't cured but Leonhart took her to a village in Yoana so that she could get treated there with Ambrosia fruit. Before Sariphi fell of the cliff after taking a wrong step, Leonhart grabs her in time and hugs her and says that he has been looking for her. He then gives her a ring containing Ambrosia he then reassured Sariphi that she was his queen after she asked if she could stay with him.[10]
When his human form was exposed to everyone in Ozmargo, Sariphi and Bennu comes to his rescue and Bennu flies both of them to the cave Leonhart took Sariphi to the previous day, Sariphi asks if she could borrow his cloak so that she can go outside and check, when she returns she tells him that Set has ordered everyone to divide each species into classes and if it continues all the beastkinds will fight each other, and the only one who can stop it is his majesty. Leonhart takes her hands and tells her that the beast realm is no longer is a place for him and asks Sariphi to join him to live in Yoana. She claps him and says that she knows he doesn't want to leave after all he has done for Ozmargo and its people and that he shouldn't use her as an excuse to run away from Ozmargo, he then apologizes to her and says she's right.[11]
After Set uses magic after telling Sariphi to be quiet and sends her flying to the air, Leonhart jumps after her. After the Miasma returns, Leonhart returns to his beastly form and summons Gwiber and roars while having Sariphi in his arms.
Sariphi and Leonhart then prepares to walk towards the people.
Epilogue[]
A year later after the wedding, Leonhart and Sariphi have moved to their new bedroom where they began reminiscing about the times of Calcara's first steps and meeting Tetra again, Amit and Jormungand becoming closer, and Lanteveldt's newfound maturity. [12]
Nine years later, Sariphi and Leonhart have a son named Richard, named after Leonhart's birth name. Thanks to Sariphi's kindness, benevolence, and positive influence, beasts and humans are unified with love and harmony.

- Beast-Human Hybrid physiology: Due to being a beast-human hybrid, Leonhart possesses superhuman and mystical attributes, such as superhuman strength, endurance, speed, longevity, mystogenesis and mystokinesis. Leonhart is also one of the most, if not the most powerful beast on the entire planet.
- Superhuman Strength: Leonhart is much stronger than humans and most other beasts, for example, he was able to overpower Fenrir quite easily, despite the fact that, Leonhart was in a severely weakened state at the time.
- Superhuman Endurance: Leonhart's endurance is far more greatly developed than humans and most other beasts, for example, he was able to continue fighting against Fenrir, despite the fact that, Leonhart was severely injured, by the latter.
- Superhuman Speed: Leonhart is much faster than humans and most other beasts, for example, he can move at blur-like speeds quite easily, despite Leonhart's massive size and muscular appearance. Leonhart was also able to keep up, with Fenrir in their second and final confrontation, despite the fact that, Leonhart was severely injured, by the latter.
- Superhuman Longevity: Due to Leonhart's beast heritage, he ages much slower than humans, for example, despite the fact that, he is over 100 years old, Leonhart still maintains the physical appearance of a beast and man in his prime.
- Mystogenesis: Leonhart can generate, create and project several different types of magic, for example, he can unleashed a massive wave of bright red mystical energy that, is capable of sending his opponents flying several feet away or injuring them, depending on how much power he utilizes. Even as a child, Leonhart possesses tremendous amount of magical power, to the point that, a group of kidnappers shook in fear after he had unleashed it for the first time, when he was angered.
- Mystokinesis: Leonhart can manipulate several different types of magic, for example, he was able to crystallize the Ambrosia fruit, in order to protect Sariphi from the effects of the miasma that, is deadly to humans, when they are exposed to its' poison for long periods of time.
Abilities[]
- Master Hand-To-Hand Combatant: Due to being trained at a very young age, as well as having over 100 years of combat experience, Leonhart is a highly skilled hand-to-hand combatant in both armed and unarmed combat, for example, he can repel the attacks from weaker opponents, such as Ilya quite easily, when they went head-to-head after he had kidnapped Sariphi. According to Bennu, in a fair fight, a single human doesn't stand a chance against Leonhart. He can also utilize his razor-sharp teeth and claws as weapons in combat. Leonhart was able to overpower and seriously injure Fenrir in their second and final confrontation, to the point that, he had left the former prince of the Phantom Wolf Kingdom bleeding to death.
- Master Swordsmen: Due to being trained at a very young age, Leonhart is a highly skilled swordsman, for example, during Set's coup, he was able to strike down several beast guards quite easily, despite the fact that, he was in his human form at the time. Also, Leonhart always carries a sword, with him, whenever he is in his human form.
Weaknesses[]
- Human Form: Leonhart only possesses superhuman and mystical attributes, when he is in his beast form. In his human form, he can be overpowered, by other beasts quite easily.
- Mortality: Despite Leonhart's superhuman levels of endurance, he is still mortal, for example, he can be killed, just like other living beings.
- Miasma: Due to the fact that, Leonhart is a first generation beast-human hybrid, his powers are directly related to the amount of "miasma" that, is currently in the air. He becomes powerless and involuntarily transforms back, into his human form, when the miasma disappears, when it's a full moon or, when a storm blows it away. It also happens, when he enters the human realm, Yoana, where there is no miasma.
- Sensitive Hearing: Like all other beasts, Leonhart's ears are more delicate to loud sounds than humans.

Trivia[]
- In author's notes, Yū Tomofuji experimented with a bunch of different approaches for the King: upturned horns, down-turned horns, short hair, long hair, then in the end, she went with a shirtless, long hair version. The shirtless-ness was her editor's idea. She tends to prefer nicely-fitted outfits herself.
- In Volume 4, as a beast, Leonhart is in mid-twenties (human years), he is over 2 meters (6'6") tall. His favorite food is food with a good, tough texture. As human, his height is 180cm (5'10") tall.
- In Volume 2/Episode 3, Leonhart wasn't a fan of Anubis' nagging.
- Leonhart's birth name is "Richard", who was named after one of the previous human kings, "Richard the Lionheart".
