Flight and the Justice's Ambition (逃亡と法官の野望, Tōbō to Hōkan no Yabō) is the twenty-second episode of the Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts anime series.
Summary[]
Leonhart's worst nightmare has come true: his human form has been exposed for all to see! And the scheming Justice Set pounces on this chance to seize power. Sariphi escapes with Leonhart, but can she convince him to face his people again?
Plot[]
As Leonhart looks at himself in shock, the crowd were frantically asking where the king is and why there is a human there as everyone looks shocked - Amit, Lanteveldt, Clops & Cy, Jormungand, and Anubis included. Just then, Sariphi and Bennu comes to his aid and asks him to come quickly, he takes her hand and they fly off, Lanteveldt throws Cy to Sariphi and nods while they fly away, Sariphi is wonders what is happening and why the the sky suddenly is blue.
Anubis then pulls Set to the side and demands what he's done to Leonhart. When Set then says that he did nothing, Anubis says that this must be a lie and his scheme because he went through the forbidden archive to learn spells that only royals can use and that he used it to trap the king in human form. Set agrees but says that he did nothing to the king because all he did was temporarily remove the miasma from the air with a spell, recreating the conditions of nights of revelation.
Back with Lanteveldt and Clops, they suddenly find themselves surrounded by guards. Jormungand tries to command them, but one of them explains that they're now in Set's control. Right on cue, Set appears in front of the crowd where he announces that he will be the unofficial acting king consort.
Sariphi is wondering what to do now that everyone has seen the king's human form, she then hugs Leonhart and she doesn't know what to do about it but that she has to keep it together, she then lets go and says that she will go outside and asks Leonhart if she can borrow his cloak.
Sariphi then goes outside with Leonhart's cape and says to Bennu that the sky is still clear, Suspicious, Bennu voiced his doubts that the disappearance of the miasma is anything but natural, which means an artificial force. Sariphi then says if someone did this on purpose, her stomach then growls and the first thing she should do is eat, she then asks Bennu if he can watch over the king.
In the town, Set's men are separating the villagers from mammalian to non-mammalian against their will. The wolf leader of the sorting unit leader announces everyone about the new (yet unofficial) class system where mammalians are first-class citizens while non-mammalian citizens will have their rights stripped under Set's decree, much to everyone's shock. Their protests fell on deaf ears as the sorting unit leader bellows that Leonhart is only breaching equality to hide his half blood. As the men almost separate everyone by their species, Maru is seen calling out to give her baby back while El is also calling for his mother.
El then kicks the officer's calf to be released from his grip, but ended up angering him that prompts him to attacks El but before he can attack, Sariphi comes to his aid and protects El which shocks the man and then yells that its the human girl who ran off with the king. As Cy helplessly watches in worry, Sariphi then tells everyone that he's their king and asks why they have to do this just because he has human blood and that his majesty has worked hard for everyone all this time. One of Set's men then yells that they will execute Sariphi but before he can strike her Lanteveldt comes just in time and then fights the guy and multiple others of Set's men and tells them that he's been trained by the royal guard himself.
Maru then takes El away from Sariphi and Lanteveldt then asks if that's the way to act after Sariphi saved her son, the townspeople then says that they thought help arrived but it turned out that he's working with a human and then says what to expect from a hyenian folk. Lanteveldt then tells Sariphi that they shouldn't overstay their welcome, Sariphi then looks back as Maru turns El, and she smiles and leaves.
Lanteveldt then tells Sariphi that those men that tried to separate each species was sent by Set and that Set might have been planning this for a while Sariphi then says that he must have done it to the sky too. Lanteveldt then says that if he figured out the king's secret and engineered this he could see the crazy speech that he said to the town of Ozmargo and that the current king doesn't have royal blood but that Set is the former king's child and that he's the only real heir to the throne of Ozmargo.
Jormungand then yells while being restricted how he could be of Royal blood and Set tells him that he was born to the former king of Ozmargo and one of the concubines and that it was kept hidden of a rare exception norm that he takes after his mother instead of the royal bloodline. The archpriest says that there is no doubt because the archpriest signature of that time is genuine, Jormungand then says that just because he "has" royal blood that he should rule.
Set then says that he is delighted that he understands and that he didn't expect him to be so open minded, Jormungand then pulls the guards restricting him away and walks towards Set and asks Anubis if that is why he just stands there and asks if Set is the king he serve, Anubis (who was seemingly brainwashed by Set) then replies that he only serves the true king and that his position cannot be changed, much to Jormungand's shock before he punches him to the ground, causing Anubis to fall onto his knees and his silk mask to slide off his muzzle. Crossed by his friend's 'betrayal', Jormungand then says if that is how he do things that he would take a different path.
Jormungand then says that the king is the only one he will serve and that he will defend him with his life, Set then says that he took his side after all and calls Jormungand a rebel and tells the guards to seize him.
Sariphi then says that she can't believe that happened while they were on the run and Lanteveldt says that if Set becomes king that means that the will be civil war in Ozmargo and says that Set is a supremacist. Sariphi asks what Lanteveldt thinks now that everyone has seen Leonhart's human form and he says that he was surprised and that he don't see it as a big deal and that Sariphi is the one he serve so the guy she picked is his king, Clops & Cy says they feel the same way about his majesty and that they'll go with him and Sariphi.
Sariphi then thanks Clops & Cy and Lanteveldt and says to herself that there are people who will stay with you no matter who he is, Sariphi says that they can't keep hiding forever and that the only one who can stop the civil war is his majesty only and that they need to get him back on his feet but firstly she has to do something first: to find out the truth about the king.
Lanteveldt then asks if she will find clues about his majesty in the palace, Sariphi says that the diary she hid is in a place only she knows and that it wouldn't be right to investigate the diary it without him, Lanteveldt says that they'll have to talk to him about it. Sariphi asks them to wait outside while she goes in to the cave to talk to Leonhart.
Sariphi asks Leonhart to listen to her, she then starts to explain that Set is trying to become king and divide all the species into different classes and if it keeps up the beasts will end up fighting each other she then says that the only one who can stop this is him and that if he discover the truth and rise again that there will be people who will accept him, Leonhart then takes Sariphi's hands and asks why the bloodlines matter and that the people already has seen him in his human form and that he can't protect his people and Sariphi.
Leonhart then says that the beast realm has no place for him anymore, he then hugs Sariphi and asks her to come with him to Yoana. A guard is telling Jormungand that his military exploits ends here and that a reptilian like him could never have led the royal guard under the last king, Amit then sneaks behind him and knocks the guard out which shocks Jormungand, Amit then takes the keys from the guard and tells him that she'll let him out and asks him to hurry. Jormungand then asks her why she would do this and she wonders if he's going to find the king and asks her to take him with her, he says that he can't expose her to danger and Amit says that Sariphi might be with the king and that she'll do her best to avoid him slowing down suddenly another guard comes and tells them to catch the escapees, Jormungand then comes to her aid and vows to protect her as well they then run out of the cellroom.
Sariphi then asks just the two of them and Leonhart says that in Yoana that he can live without hiding himself and she wont face judgement for her race and asks her to live quietly in Yoana. Sariphi asks if this is what he wants and Leonhart says that she's all he needs, Sariphi then pulls away and claps him and says that he's lying, that if he abandons Ozmargo that he's done so much to protect it and if he forgets the countries people and the people who stayed with him and supported him and wonders if he will ever be able to smile from the heart. She starts to tear up and says that she'll go wherever he goes and that they'll be together no matter what and asks him not to lie to himself and says that he shouldn't use her as an excuse to run away.
Leonhart then takes her hands away from his face and wipes away the tear from her eye and apologizes and asks her to forgive him, he then stands up and turns around that and says that he is a king but that he has a cowardly heart and that he has kept eyes away from him because of his contradictions and that his own divisions led to the divisions in the kingdom and says that he's done running from himself, his hand then starts to tremble, Sariphi takes his hand and it stops, she asks him if he is scared and he says he is about to appear publicly in his human form and to find out where he came from and says that he will be alright, as long as Sariphi is here with him, that he has nothing to fear.
Amit wonders if Sariphi isn't hurt, Jormungand tells her that they might be hiding from pursuers and that it might not be easy for them to find because of it. Jormungand says that she truly cared about her friends and she said that she worry because she is her friend, but that she is her friend because she worry about her, Jormungand says that he is the same way which confuses Amit. He then explains that he always dreamed of joining the royal army during his youth, but was turned away due to the anti-reptilian prejudice. Then one day, the king asks how many talents like him has been snuffed out because of the species and tells him to wait, one day that he will change this kingdom and to keep faith in his sword until he do.
Jormungand then says that the king kept his word and that's where he is right now and that he don't serve him because he is his king, but that he is his king because he wants to serve him and asks Amit to forgive him for talking too much about himself, Amit says to him not to apologize, suddenly a flower petal appears and Amit wonders where it came from and that the petals hasn't withered yet and that someone wanted it to tell their fortune to Jormungand's confusion, she says that its something she and Sariphi tried.
In a flashback, Sariphi compliments Amit's flowers that they grew in Ozmargo and Amit says that they only last a day in Ozmargo but in Murga its been told that the flower fortune often comes true, Sariphi then asks if she will tell her fortune with Jormungand, Amit becomes bashful and that she couldn't possibly do it before fading back to the present. Amit tells Jormungand that she and Sariphi used those flowers and wonders if its Sariphi who plucks them. Lanteveldt is telling Sariphi that he's gathered firewood and that they can make a fire to the camp while Sariphi plucks a flower. Sariphi then says that Amit told her that these fortunes told by the flowers often come true. Just then, they then hear a rustling sound and Lanteveldt prepares to attack the "pursuer" but they pull out their sword to block the attack, revealing it to be Jormungand.
Sariphi then looks and sees Amit. Amit asks if Sariphi isn't hurt they then hug and Sariphi apologizes for worrying her. Lanteveldt then says that they can't believe that he found them and Jormungand says that they should credit the flower of their friendship much to Lanteveldt's confusion and asks if they're here that the king is nearby. Jormungand then heads towards the tree where Leonhart is and apologizes for his lateness. Jormungand then asks if they plan to raid the palace to read the diary that Sariphi got from Yoana and says that he will lead the raid.
Lanteveldt says that this would be easy if the spell Set used to make the sky normal to what it usually is in Ozmargo so that the king will be turned back into his beast form since Set won't stand a chance against him in his beast form. Leonhart then says that force isn't the answer to what is currently going on and it won't mean anything unless he can get the people to accept him as he is and as the king and if they seek out the truth and if he doesn't have royal blood that he will depart the beast realm, Jormungand then says that he will follow him everywhere. Leonhart then says that him and Jormungand will storm the palace and when he shows himself all the eyes will be on him and Lanteveldt says that he will find the diary but Sariphi says that she will join Lanteveldt since she is the only one who knows where the diary is hidden.
Amit tells her that it is dangerous and that she should stay with her, but Sariphi tells her not to worry since she has Lanteveldt with her. Leonhart then walks towards Sariphi and leaves the diary to her, Leonhart then asks Lanteveldt to take good care of her and he swear on it. Lanteveldt and Jormungand then look at each other and nod. Lanteveldt and Sariphi then fly on Bennu while Amit wishes them to be careful. Leonhart then says its time for them to go too, Jormungand asks Amit to hide herself and apologizes for not being able to continue to guard her and Amit wishes him to take care.
Leonhart and Jormungand then jumps off the cliff. Amit sits down and prays for everyone's safety since its all she can do now. Jormungand beats some of the guards unconsious and apologizes, he then gives a sword to Leonhart, who then uses the sword to cut his hair shorter. One of the guard informed Set that there is an emergency and Set replies that he is aware, wondering why Leonhart has come to him. Leonhart demands that they open the gates and tells them that the king of Ozmargo has returned.
