Arthur Achilles Sigmund Sigurd Georgios Diarmuid Heracles Perseus Alexander (アーサー・アキレウス・シグムンド・シグルズ・ゲオルギウス・ディアルマド・ヘラクレス・ペルセウス・アレキサンダーだって, Āsā akireusu shigumundo shiguruzu georugiusu diarumado herakuresu peruseusu arekisandā datte) is a minor character of the Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts manga series.

Appearance[]

Arthur is a member of the Platypus Tribe. The Platypus Tribe is made fun of by other beastkind because other beastkind are unable to tell if members of the Platypus Tribe are mammalian or avian. [1]

Arthur has brown fur, a grey bill, and blue eyes. He wears a bright green jacket and an orange bag. [2]

He looks similar to his mother.

Personality[]

Arthur struggles greatly with his self confidence. As a result, he often makes disparaging comments about himself. He describes himself as "scatterbrained and slow". [1]

Despite having low feelings about himself, he believes that other people should have confidence in themselves.[3]

History[]

Arthur grew up in a rural village that wasn't near any oceans or big lakes. [3] According to Arthur, his mother gave him a "splendid name" so he would grow up to be a "splendid member of beastkind". It took him 10 years to remember his full name as he struggled to learn it as a child. [1]

As a child, Arthur never learned to swim. As a result, Arthur is considered a particularly bad swimmer amongst members of the Platypus Tribe. [3] In the past, Arthur dreamed of becoming a member of the Istan Navy. However, his subpar swimming skills always prevented him from pursuing his dream. [3]

Plot[]

When a triumphal procession honoring Leonhart's victory over Fenrir is announced, Arthur spends 3 days traveling the water-ways of Ozmargo in order to make it to the capital on time to catch a glimpse of the king. [3] At some point during his travels, Arthur gets lost and ends up swimming through the canals inside the royal palace. [1]

While swimming in the canals in the palace, he mistakes Sariphi's foot, which was hanging in the water, for something to use for exiting the water. He grabs onto her foot, and uses it to jump out of the water. He immediately decides to set up a picnic, as his long journey has left him very hungry. Lanteveldt suspects that Arthur may be a burglar or assassin, so he ties Arthur up. This confuses Arthur, since he has no idea he's in the palace.[1]

Arthur introduces himself to Sariphi and Lanteveldt. His name is so long that they decide to abbreviate it to just "Arthur". Arthur tells Sariphi and Lanteveldt that he wishes to see a glimpse of the king with the hopes that it will make him more confident. He becomes immediately distraught when he finds out that he is inside the palace walls. Sariphi attempts to cheer him up, and promises to help him find a place in the city where he can view the king during the processional. [1]

After a short while, Arthur, Sariphi, and Lanteveldt find a roof top in the city where they can view the processional. As the processional is approaching, a pickpocket bumps into Sariphi, and tries to steal her ring. Lanteveldt attacks and restrain the pickpocket, and Sariphi's ring falls off the rooftop and into a canal down below. Arthur decides to give up his one chance of seeing the king, and jumps into the canal to retrive Sariphi's ring. [3]

Sariphi is so grateful for his help that she arranges for Arthur to have a private audience with Leonhart. Leonhart thanks Arthur for returning Sariphi's ring and offers him a reward. Arthur asks to shake the king's hand. Despite Anubis's strong objections, Leonhart shakes Arthur's hand, which makes him incredibly happy. [3]

Arthur thanks Sariphi for her kindness, and tells her that he plans on joining the Istan Navy after he leaves the capital. [3]

Arthur joins the Istan Navy where he becomes a trainee. He is with the Istan Navy when they come to the palace to fight for Leonhart. He is assigned as a guard to Amit and Clops & Cy at the gates of the palace. [4]

While inside the palace, he helps Amit, Clops & Cy find Lanteveldt. Together, Amit, Clops & Cy, Lanteveldt, and Arthur find the spell that Set is using to keep the miasma away. [4]

After Amit used her own blood to overwrite Set's spell they all head towards where Sariphi and Leonhart is.

Relationships[]

Sariphi[]

When Arthur finds out that he is inside the palace, he complains that he is useless, but Sariphi insists that he must have some genuinely useful skills since he made it all the way to the capital by himself.[1] Arthur is extremely grateful for Sariphi's kindness towards him and her help. He decides to give up his chance to see Leonhart in order to help Sariphi when she looses her ring. [3] He later describes Sariphi as his benefactor. [4]

Lanteveldt[]

When Lanteveldt first sees Arthur, he immediately suspects that Arthur is a burglar or assassin. He also suspects that the Platypus Tribe is made up. When they first meet, Lanteveldt tells Arthur that he should be proud of the species he was born into. [1] After Arthur retrieves Sarihpi's ring, Lanteveldt agrees that an audience with Leonhart is a just reward for his actions. He even tells Arthur that his initial opinion of him has slightly improved. [3] Later on, Lanteveldt is impressed by Arthur's drive to become an important member of the Istan Navy. [4]

Leonhart[]

Arthur has no personal relationship with Leonhart, as they only interact during an official audience one time in the manga. [3] However, Arthur idolizes Leonhart. [4] He believes Leonhart to be a great king who's appearance alone makes him worthy of the title. [1]

Galois and Joz[]

Since Arthur becomes a member of the Istan Navy, it can be assumed that Galois and Joz are his commanding officers. It is unknown what kind of relationship Arthur has with his commanding officers as they are never seen interacting in the manga. They can, however, be seen in the background of a flashback of Arthur performing chores while being a trainee in the Istan Navy. [4]

Quotes[]

"Th-That's right. You're the first person who's ever remembered after hearing it just once. I mean, it took me ten years to learn my own name..."[1]

"I didn't get to see the king... but more than that .... I'm glad that someone who's been kind to me won't have to feel sad." [3]

"I've always idolized his majesty, so .... !! I came to help him and my benefactor Lady Sariphi!" [4]

Trivia[]

  • Aside from Sariphi, no one has ever been able to remember Arthur's full name the first time they hear it. [1]
  • His appearance in the anime was skipped over in the adaptation.
